After reading about Ma Jasmin’s on Wandering Chopsticks’ Twitter feed, I knew I had to try it. Here they are below at the Alhambra Farmer’s Market, Sundays from 8:30 am to 1 pm. I loved their samosa rolls – the spinach and cheddar was delicious globs of Indian spinach and good ol’ cheddar wrapped like an eggroll – a great combo! The beef and potato samosa roll was also quite tasty. I should have taken a picture of the rolls opened but I couldn’t control myself after one bite and inhaled them both. I read on other blogs that Ma Jasmin’s is British Indian food. I loooved loooved it and will be back to try their whole menu. In fact, I found out that they participate in the Chef’s Center’s Friday Food Fair in Pasadena. Can’t wait for my next fix!

Tired of hearing the wind blow through your date’s empty skull? Trade up at this indie bookseller’s super-cool nerd event for the thinking (wo)man. (Hey, books equals brains* right?!) It’s like hipster-ville over here, so you can expect to be in well-read, poetry-versed, tight-jeaned good company while you peruse the shelves after hours. And if all else fails they’ve got live music, free beer and light refreshments for you to blog in earnest about the following day. “The potato chips were yellow like an egg yolk dandelion left to wither beneath the hot summer sun … ”

*Citysearch Los Angeles is not responsible if you’re (yet again) cornered by a dud.

Go: 10pm-12am. Bring: Fake eyeglasses, an outgoing attitude and your copy of “The Catcher in the Rye” (just kidding, leave that at home).

We visited Lechuza Beach over the Memorial Day weekend, arriving right when the tide was pretty high – after sunset but still light out – so we couldn’t walk onto the beach. Still, it was very cool. Look how close the water comes to the stairs. It was as if these stairs led straight to the ocean.

I loved the rhino-looking rocks. This one reminded me of a lonely beast looking out to sea:

Previously when I visited Lechuza, I got a nice stretch of the beach. Not this time:

We found free parking in the neighborhood right next to an Aston Martin and beach-front mansions. The gate was locked on our way out but a neighbor freed us.

For directions on how to visit Lechuza, a free beach with free parking, visit here. To read about my other Malibu beach exploits and how to get on David Geffen’s beach, click on my Malibu Beaches for All post. The Los Angeles Urban Rangers taught me how to operate these beaches; sometimes, they run free safaris to the Malibu beaches. Now that summer’s rolling around, the beach is calling you.

* Caution – Lechuza Beach and the secret beaches of Malibu do not have lifeguards, bathrooms, and civilization around them. Visit at your own risk. Certainly don’t go into the water at high tide and don’t go alone. *
